Chicago is one of the most expensive cities to live in in the United States, and Angel Reese reveals that she is also a victim of those high costs, since her WNBA salary does not cover her $8,000 a month rent.
Reese revealed his staggering monthly income in an Instagram Live video, with his annual salary with the Chicago Sky totaling $73,439.
Living paycheck to paycheck isn’t out of the ordinary for someone fresh out of college and in their twenties like Reese.
Reese’s choice to live an extravagant lifestyle stems from his off-court activities and brand deals.
The 22-year-old has associations that include candy brand Reese’s Pieces, Topps, Beats by Dre, Goldman Sachs and his own podcast. As one of the WNBA’s biggest stars, these are likely lucrative deals.
WNBA star Angel Reese was recently in New York City for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Reese revealed that her WNBA salary doesn’t come close to paying her annual rent in Chicago
‘Hate pays my bills, darling. I just hope you know that the WNBA doesn’t pay my bills at all. I don’t even think that pays one of my bills,” Reese said on Instagram. ‘I’m literally trying to think about the rent for the place I’m staying. I’m going to do the math real quick. I don’t even know my salary.’
‘Hey, I’m living beyond my means! No, my rent is more than that. It’s $8,000. I’m living beyond my means.’
Surely there are good places to live in the Windy City that wouldn’t cost Reese $96,000 a year.
Reese’s pays more than four times the average for a one-bedroom apartment in Chicago, with a median price of $1,847. by Apartamentos.com.
Reese also won’t see a massive salary jump next season, increasing his annual fee with the Sky to $74,909.
The soon-to-be WNBA sophomore clearly has a financial advisor or makes enough money from her brand deals that she doesn’t have to worry about paying nearly $100,000 in rent per year.
Although many have criticized the WNBA for the salaries they pay their respective teams, Reese has shown a model of how to live a life of excess while still playing in the league.
