Angel Reese makes WNBA history through first 5 games

Angel Reese makes WNBA history in first 5 games originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Five games into his professional career, Angel Reese already owns a piece of league history.

After a 12-rebound performance Tuesday against the Seattle Storm, the 6-foot-3 Chicago Sky forward cemented herself as the second player in WNBA history to record 24 offensive rebounds in her first five games. Only Yolanda Griffith, considered one of the best rebounders and defensive players in women’s basketball history, had more offensive rebounds (31) in her first five games.

Although impressive, this stat confirms the star rookie, who currently leads the entire league in offensive rebounds. Reese finished his LSU career ranked No. 5 on the NCAAW’s all-time offensive rebounds list. He also finished 16th all-time in total rebounds.

Reese also recorded her first career double-double on Tuesday night, becoming the first Sky player since Sylvia Fowles to record one in her first five games.

Next up: The Sky will take the court Thursday at Wintrust Arena, where Reese will go head-to-head with Los Angeles Sparks star rookie Cameron Brink. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm CT.
