Andy Murray revealed he hasn't spoken to Emma Raducanu since her withdrawal from Wimbledon

Andy Murray has revealed he has not spoken to Emma Raducanu since she called off her Wimbledon exit earlier this month, but insisted he is not “bitter” about her decision to retire from mixed doubles.

The former world number one, who will retire after the Olympics, had intended to end her SW19 career by playing Raducanu, but the 21-year-old abandoned the plan in favour of nursing a minor injury during her run to the last 16 in singles.

That sparked a public backlash against Raducanu, with Murray’s mother Judy also describing the situation as “astonishing”. Speaking at the British team’s base in Paris, Murray defended his mother’s reaction but said he had “no problem” with Raducanu.

“Everyone will look out for their own interests and what they do,” Murray said. “I understand that and I have no problem with that.”

‘I haven’t spoken to her since we spoke on the phone, when she told me she wasn’t going to play.’

Asked about his mother’s response on social media to Raducanu’s withdrawal, Murray, who will sit out the singles and play only doubles here with Dan Evans, said: “I think it’s always important in situations like this to remember that at that moment everyone is really emotional because it’s the end of my involvement at Wimbledon.

“She’s my mother, so obviously she cares a lot about me and she’s been a big part of my career. Obviously, we’re all very excited. My mother is always going to support me and look out for my best interests. She’s been my biggest supporter.”

Murray added: “To be able to finish playing Wimbledon on Centre Court with my brother (Jamie, in doubles) was incredibly special. Obviously it wasn’t how I planned it. That’s how it ended and I’m very happy about that. I’m not frustrated or bitter about it. I’m just happy I was able to finish playing Wimbledon with my brother.”
