The married couple regularly visited Goa and had been vacationing in the area for 15 days when the husband died, police said.

Sources told local media that the Briton married his wife a year and a half ago.

An autopsy was ordered after police deemed the man’s death “unnatural”.

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who died in India and are in contact with local authorities. »

It comes just a month after a British woman drowned in front of her horrified son after being dragged into the sea near a famous temple in India.

The 84-year-old was visiting the southeast Indian town of Mamallapuram with her son on February 12.

The two went to a temple on the city’s shores and visited a beach nearby, both deciding to go into the sea of the Bay of Bengal.

Authorities said a strong tide may have pushed the woman away from the beach.

Her son failed to save her and an hour later her body washed ashore.

After the police were informed about the incident, they sent his body to the government hospital in Chengalpattu, around 30 km away.

Local media reported that police were preparing to fly his body back to the United Kingdom.
