Andrew Lloyd Webber confirmed on Saturday that his son Nicholas Lloyd Webber has passed away at the age of 43. The renowned composer delivered the news a week after revealing that his son had been hospitalized with stomach cancer.
“I am heartbroken to have to announce that my beloved eldest son Nick died a few hours ago at Basingstoke Hospital,” Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote in a Saturday post. statement shared on social media.
“His entire family is reunited and we are all totally bereft.”
On Thursday, the EGOT winner missed the opening night of his new musical, “Bad Cinderella” on Broadway to be with her sick son. She was also absent from preview performances of the show, which is now playing at the Imperial Theater after opening in London’s West End in 2021.
Nicholas Lloyd Webber, who followed in his father’s footsteps as a songwriter and record producer, was diagnosed with stomach cancer more than a year ago.
“I am absolutely devastated to say that my eldest son Nick is seriously ill,” Andrew Lloyd Webber told Playbill last weekend.
“As my friends and family know, he has been battling gastric cancer for the past 18 months and Nick is now hospitalized. … We all pray for Nick to come around the corner. He is fighting valiantly with his indomitable humor, but right now my place is with him and the family.”
In addition to his efforts in the music and theater industry, Nicholas Lloyd Webber was known for his work in films, advertising campaigns, and television series such as “Grey’s Anatomy.” He also collaborated with his father on several musical and stage projects, including stage productions of “The Little Prince” and “Fat Friends,” as well as a “Cinderella” concept album.
Nicholas Lloyd Webber is survived by his wife, Polly Wiltshire, and his siblings: Imogen, Isabella, William and Alastair LLoyd Webber.
