YoI’m nostalgic for a lot of things (music, cartoons, breakfast cereals), but especially the old Internet, when websites, web forums, and social media had a certain charm and chaos that no longer exists.
Almost all of the videos below are over a decade old and appeared on playlists I carefully curated to play in my living room in the late 2000s. They are genuine classics and are best experienced on the Nintendo Wii’s YouTube app between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m.
1. A risky business gone wrong
This video really earns its place in the first seven seconds, but please keep watching. A girl dressed like Tom Cruise tries poorly to care for her injured friend who is also dressed like Tom Cruise. The final frame is my favorite part.
2. Soft Side – Morning Walk
I’ve been forcing my friends to watch Nathan Fielder videos for 15 years, and after the end of The Curse I have no plans to stop. I think this video, the two-minute debut single from his jazz-pop duo Side of Smooth, was my first introduction to Nathan, and while he definitely steals the show with his low-energy facials and high-energy vocals , I wish Another guy from Side of Smooth was also still making videos.
3. Ragnar Otnes and Mads Ousdal – Kick the Burger
This is from a Norwegian television series called Hotel Oslo and as it begins with the presenter speaking in his native language, he suddenly stands up, puts on a pair of sunglasses and begins speaking in broken English into the camera (“We’ “I’m going to have some time” is one of my most quoted phrases). He then plays a beat while he hits a man trying to kick a hamburger with a long stick. This video really grabs you by the throat and takes you on an unpredictable (and unintelligible) adventure. Can the man in the funny pants kick the burger to the moon? I don’t know! Alright? Alright!
4. A Triple Six Turtles Christmas
Every generation has a vision of the Ninja Turtles. Generation
5. Dancing to Becker’s theme song for an hour straight
Whenever I feel down, I turn on this video and embark on a magical adventure with this brave man who, just as the title describes, loses his mind and loses his family while dancing to the theme song of the late-night sitcom from the 90s and early 2000s by Ted Danson, Becker. for 60 captivating minutes. If you spend 90 seconds thinking you’ve seen everything this video has to offer, you couldn’t be more wrong; It takes more twists and turns than an entire season of Lost.
6. Streamer sings Fetty Wap at the Nintendo World Championships
Has anyone made one of these lists and filled it exclusively with embarrassing gaming conference moments before? I think the best moment comes from the Nintendo World Championships in 2015, where one of the hosts (a very nervous streamer named D1) stops the event so he can sing a rendition of Fetty Wap’s Trap Queen and immediately messes up. I think of this moment every time I hear the original song.
7. My Heart Will Go On (played with a nose flute)
The most recently added video to this list is also perhaps the cutest. I found this video while trying to explain to my kids what a nose flute was. Soon my entire family had tears in their eyes as we watched a lady with a flute in her nose pay a tender tribute to the 1,517 lost souls of the Titanic, complete with a small model of a ship pulled by a rope into an ice bucket. Beautiful.
8. Pretty Ricky – Late Night Special
This is my best friend Angus’ favorite YouTube video of all time, and interestingly enough, this is a video about best friends, best friends hanging out, listening to music, and showing each other their best sex moves.
9. Brodyquest
From Mouth Sounds to Potter Puppet Pals, Neil Cicierega has maintained his position as YouTuber god for almost 20 years, and by far my favorite of his masterpieces is Brodyquest, a musical adventure that sends actor Adrien Brody to the depths of outer space . and both backward and forward through time. The song is also a bop.
10. Vote for Enrique
In 2013, this old conservative named Henry campaigned for a Senate seat by recording a silly Christian pop song about what a great guy and businessman he was. I’m not sure if he was successful, but I do know that earlier this year he appeared in court after being accused of stock market manipulation. Unfortunately he did not record a new song.
