NRL immortal Andrew Johns has praised Mitchell Moses, calling the halfback’s performance for NSW in the second game of the Origin series “the best he has seen in his career”.

Moses, in just his fourth appearance for the Blues, was immense in effectively kicking Queensland to death in a man-of-the-match display at the MCG.

Often criticized for his defending, the playmaker stood his ground, prompting Johns to declare that Moses belongs in the Origin arena.

“This is the best game I’ve seen Mitch Moses play,” Johns told Channel Nine moments before kick-off.

‘His kicking game was top class, as was his combination play with Jarome (Luai).

“There’s been a knock on his defense before, but he didn’t let anyone down tonight.”

Speaking full-time, the Parramatta star revealed how he went the extra mile to ensure he excelled in his state.

“I asked a couple of AFL guys before I came here (MCG) what it’s like to kick,” he said.

‘Yes, there is a big whirlpool over here. I just had to get out early and feel what was around me.

“The second half was a little bit more difficult, but yeah, we had to do the job and that’s what we did.”

It comes after the Panthers confirmed on Wednesday that Blues number 7 Nathan Cleary will not feature in the Origin decider.

In recent weeks, Penrith have delved into the 26-year-old’s hamstring issues after he also missed six games last year with a torn right hamstring.

Two-time medalist Clive Churchill felt problems with his left hamstring in the third round of this season, ruling him out for four weeks.

Cleary was then rested from another game immediately afterwards via a brief substitution, before going down again with another left hamstring injury in early May.
