And I didn’t expect that! Painful moment An Irish electric scooter driver crashes into a pavement barrier

  • The unfortunate cyclist can be seen racing down a path straight to a gate in Dublin

An electric scooter driver in Ireland was mugged after failing to detect a barrier in front of him and colliding head-on with it at high speed.

The unfortunate cyclist can be seen racing down a road at high speed in doorbell camera footage from a nearby home.

Sensibly, the man was wearing a high visibility jacket to make himself visible to pedestrians and road users.

But he himself couldn’t see the massive silver metal barrier in front of him as he rushed towards it, seemingly oblivious.

The cyclist picked up speed as he went down the hill before getting caught when his chest smashed into the solid metal gate.

The impact can be heard making a sickening thud in footage of his shocking crash.

He was knocked to the ground and his scooter went flying in the opposite direction.

Absorbing what had just happened, the man could be heard growing on the ground.

The moment of terror in Dublin on Monday was captured by a Ring security camera at a neighboring house.

Local resident Griff Webber said: ‘How come you didn’t see that?’

The unfortunate rider picked up speed as he rode down a small hill toward the metal gate.

Still apparently unconscious, the scooter driver rushes for the door in the doorbell camera footage.

The man, who was wearing a ho-viz jacket so he wouldn't be seen, clearly didn't see the door himself.

That's got to hurt: The scooter rider is covered in clothes through the silver door before hitting the ground.

Another, named Tom, quipped: “That bar came out of nowhere.”

A third said: ‘First thought, this is a new door.

“But upon closer review, there is a clear and well-worn path around it.

“I’m flabbergasted at this point.”

Eoin Donnellan felt the man’s pain and tweeted: “Jesus I can feel that from here.”

Just like in the UK, electric scooters are not allowed on the roads and byways of Ireland.

They can only be used on private land.

Last year, the Irish police recorded 746 traffic incidents involving electric scooters, an average of 14 per week.

The figure is 106 higher than in 2021, when 640 traffic incidents were recorded, according to An Garda Síochána.
