Ana de Armas admitted that she once skipped a friend’s wedding to attend an important business call.
During a Q&A following the Sept. 7 screening of Eden at the Toronto International Film Festival, the philanthropic star opened up about her decision to take a call from director Ron Howard rather than watch her friend get married.
The Ghosted star was eager to speak to Howard, 70, about the opportunity to join the film centered on a group of people who move to a deserted location to create their own utopia.
“I never saw those people get married because I was on the phone with Ron,” she revealed.
“Do you remember that? Then you said, ‘I can’t hear you,'” the actress recalled to her friend.

De Armas plays Wagner Wehrhorn’s Eloise Bosquet, a self-proclaimed baroness, in the survival thriller based on a true story.
“We talked about the Baroness and I told him (Ron) how I felt and all the things I was already imagining,” she told the audience.
The plot is based on the experiences of a German philosopher who traveled to the Galapagos with his lover/disciple in the late 1920s to create an experimental society.
Problems arose when others, including the opportunistic Baroness, came to the remote island for their own purposes.
The Oscar nominee admitted she was surprised by how relatable the story turned out to be.
“I couldn’t believe how crazy it was and how relatable it was even today,” he explained.
The Blonde star joked that she thought working as the femme fatale in Eden might mean “the end of her career,” but decided to take part anyway.
‘FFrom day one, there was a lot of communication back and forth and I thought, ‘This could be the end of my career, but it seems fun, so I’m going to give it a try,'” he explained.

It’s unclear when Eden will be released in theaters or on streaming.
The film’s international rights were sold to Amazon Prime Video at Cannes in May, but U.S. rights have yet to be acquired.
