A couple on holiday in Sydney (pictured) have called for an Uber driver to be stood down after a horrific road rage incident earlier this month.

An Uber passenger has asked the ride-sharing app to remove a driver after a road rage incident led to a “fight” on the side of a busy highway.

Andrew and his wife, who wished to remain anonymous, booked the Uber from White Bay to Wynyard while on holiday in Sydney earlier this month.

He says another motorist caused the incident after cutting off his driver while they were travelling on the Western Distributor.

The driver then allegedly began driving erratically, following the other car closely and changing lanes to get in front of the driver before stopping and confronting him.

Footage taken by Andrew from the front passenger seat shows the car’s engine still running as the two men stopped morning traffic to discuss face-to-face.

“Uber driver is fighting in the middle of Sydney… Get in the car, man,” Andrew is heard saying.

He claims that the driver, after returning to the vehicle, told him that if “he didn’t have passengers, he would have ripped the fingers off of his hands.”

Despite numerous attempts to contact the ride-sharing service to complain about the experience, Andrew says he has received no response.

He said he is concerned about other passengers who catch the driver through the app, as his actions put him, his family and other road users in danger.

“It is not suitable for carrying passengers in a vehicle,” he said. 9News.

An Uber spokesperson told the Daily Mail Australia that the service “is intended to be safe and convenient for all users” and “does not tolerate unsafe behaviour, such as dangerous driving”.

“Users who violate our community guidelines may have their access to the Uber app removed,” the spokesperson said.

‘We are committed to ensuring we have robust processes and cutting-edge features built into our technology to support the security of everyone who uses our app.

“We strongly encourage users to report any concerns or incidents during or after each trip.”

They added that reviews of driver and passenger reports are “human-led” and seek to ensure “riders are treated fairly.”
