A Paris Olympics attendee has claimed Noah Lyles’ mother has not told the full truth about the security response to her son’s apparent Covid-induced collapse after the 200m final.
The fan, whose X The username is @mizzADDYtudeShe claimed she was sitting near Keisha Caine Bishop when she begged security to help the American track star, who reportedly ran the race with a 102-degree fever.
“I was sitting there and watching everything. Security didn’t refuse to call the doctor. They refused to let her on the field. They were screaming in their faces and trying to jump the fence. Security did their job,” the fan tweeted.
“Medical personnel came and gave her help. She went another way to be with him. She did her job as a mother. Security did their job and didn’t let anyone through who wasn’t a photographer,” she continued.
This came in response to Bishop’s furious Instagram post, in which he claimed stadium security would not call a doctor despite Lyles collapsing on the ground.
Olympics attendee questions Noah Lyles’ mother’s claim that security refused to help her son
The fan claimed she was sitting near Keisha Caine Bishop after the 200-meter final.
“This was one of the scariest moments of my life! Watching my son clutching his chest as he struggled to breathe while stadium security refused to call a doctor as I begged them to send him help,” she wrote earlier this week.
“They also refused to do anything to help me. They completely ignored me! No parent should ever have to experience this feeling of helplessness!” she continued.
‘However, I want to thank the @nbcolympics team for helping me through this time. Thank you for seeing me and my son as human beings and not just another story. Words cannot express my gratitude for your empathy, professionalism, and kindness.
‘I also thank the @usatf staff who let me cry on their shoulders. To the security team, I pray that if your loved one ever needs help, you treat them better than you treated us. I also thank God that you are getting better.’
Lyles, who was the favorite to win after taking gold in the 100 meters, finished third in the event.
Lyles’ mother spoke out when her son, who contracted Covid, collapsed after the race
The bishop could be seen gesturing furiously in a heated conversation with security that day.
Lyles was clearly struggling to breathe after finishing third in the event last week.
Shortly after claiming a bronze medal behind Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo and fellow US team star Kenny Bednarek, Lyles revealed she had competed with Covid.
During the live broadcast, Lewis Johnson confirmed the news to NBC viewers.
“We saw Noah being taken away in a wheelchair. I met his mother, who was very distressed,” she said.
“She confirmed that Noah had been diagnosed with Covid two days ago, but he decided he was going to run anyway,” she continued.
“I ran under the stadium to try to find where he was. We found Noah Lyles in the infirmary and he was being treated.”
While it’s not entirely clear how quickly Lyles received medical attention, the 27-year-old was eventually pushed out of the stadium in a wheelchair.
