A US Antiques Roadshow guest was shocked when he heard the value of a Halloween decoration he paid less than £10 for 25 years ago.
Since then, the guest had used the red-and-orange painted devil ornament as exterior decoration for “the entire month” of October each year.
The guest shared, “About 25 years ago, I went to a historical society sale where people donated items to keep the historical society going,” he explained.
‘And I picked up Halloween [items] and I walked in and he was sitting on the floor and I bought it. It costs 10 whole dollars. [£8].’
He concluded: ‘I asked who did it and it was a local man who worked in a factory and was supposedly like [in] around 1920 or 1930.’

American folk art expert Nancy Druckman appreciated the very peculiar-looking wooden figure that sat cross-legged on a chair and held a pitchfork.
She revealed: ‘This is the epitome of American folk art. Here’s a guy who was probably a factory worker along the Monongahela River.
“I think the date is correct, because we are in the era of Prohibition and the great temperance movement.
“So the demons are out there and they warn you about the evils of drinking.”
Nancy continued: ‘It’s just the kind of inspiration, humor and ability of an individual and he has so much personality.
‘It’s the beauty of American folk art. This piece could probably cost between $4,000 and $5,000. [£3185 and £3985].’
The guest immediately started laughing at the assessment and exclaimed, ‘Wow. Wow!
“Well, it was on my porch during Halloween for 25 years in October, all month long.”
“And it had cornstalks around it and everything, and I think we’re going to bring it in.”
Nancy responded, “You have to find another centerpiece.”
