Nothing ruins the aesthetics of a shiny new phone with a modern case more than a scratched screen, but for many owners of clunky phones, it sometimes seems inevitable.
However, phone screen repair specialists have revealed some ways in which you can remove scratches from your device and can make it look like new with just a few household items.
Me and My Glass specialists have revealed ways to help remove scratches and marks from phone screens to restore them to their former glory without paying a fortune for full screen replacements.
John Cutts said: “Scratches on a phone screen can be one of the most frustrating things to deal with, as they can tarnish the appearance of a device.”
‘If you’re looking to resell your phone, scratches on the screen are just one of the things that can affect the price you sell your phone for.
“The good news is that if the scratch is only at surface level, there is still a chance that the screen can be revived.”
Here, it reveals common household items that will help you clean your screen…
John Cutts of Me and My Glass urged Brits to resist spending money on a full screen replacement for superficial damage, recommending toothpaste or vegetable oil instead.
1. toothpaste
Toothpaste can help remove minor scratches that have not caused excessive damage to the screen.
However, this will only work with a standard toothpaste rather than gel, as standard toothpastes are slightly abrasive, which helps remove surface scratches.
Cutts added: “Be sure to thoroughly wipe the device with a microfiber cloth afterwards to remove any stains caused.”
Advised to use a microfiber cloth to clean after use of all recommended items.
2. Baking soda
Baking soda is often considered an excellent cleaning helper, and this also applies to removing scratches on your phone.
It can be applied to a smartphone screen by mixing it with distilled water and using the paste to wipe away the scratches before cleaning.
3. Baby powder
Mixing baby powder with drops of water created a similar application paste, which can be effective on minor scratches.
This can be a great way to add value to your phone on the cheap if you have baby powder lying around anyway.
4. Rubber eraser
If you have kids, but they’re a little old for baby powder to be around your house, you’ll probably have an eraser instead.
This can be used to gently buff out scratches. The friction caused by the buffing motion will soften the eraser and cause it to fill in the scratch smoothly.
5. Vegetable oil
Adding a small drop of vegetable oil to the scratch and rubbing it can hide the damage.
However, it is important to remember that this is only a temporary solution and the scratch will likely become visible again over time.
