“The driver was unaware of the pedestrian, and similarly, the pedestrian was unaware of the truck,” said Murray Reynolds, Bankstown Police Commander.
The deceased woman has not been formally identified, but a neighbor said she did not think waste should be collected during rush hour.
“I don’t think garbage trucks should come by at 8:30 AM,” said Ruba Carwizi.
[They should] come much earlier at 5am when there is not that much traffic. ‘
The Campbelltown driver was charged on four counts, including negligent driving resulting in death, disobeying a no-turn sign and not yielding to a pedestrian.
The man has been granted parole to appear in Bankstown District Court on March 11.
