An elderly Indianapolis teacher, 74, was left with horrific injuries after being punched by a 6-foot, 280-pound ‘boy’ student in the classroom while police refused to arrest him.

A 74-year-old substitute teacher was brutally beaten by a six-foot-two-inch, 280-pound student in Indiana earlier this month.

Rob Gooding was serving as a substitute at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis on Feb. 1 when the student hit him with a laptop, knocking him to the ground and punching him in the face.

Paramedics quickly arrived on the scene to treat Gooding’s significant facial injuries, and Gooding told a school resource officer who arrived with emergency crews that he wanted his attacker arrested and prosecuted.

However, Gooding alleges, school officials refused to allow the arrest because the district had ordered them to do so.

“I saw him go up and he said, ‘I already had it,’ and he came down and I blocked the Chromebook. There was the hole.’ Gooding told WISHTVrevealing the prominent injury on his forearm.

Gooding alleges that school officials refused to allow the arrest because the district had ordered them to do so.

“This kid was 6-foot-2 and weighed 280 pounds,” he said.

“He loomed over me and hit me with his left hand,” Gooding added.

The teacher said he immediately asked for the student to be arrested, but was told the school district prevented the arrest.

“So he said to me, ‘The superiors, which is the district, have ordered us not to handcuff or arrest the boy,’ and I said, ‘What?’ and he said, ‘Yes, that came from the superiors,'” Gooding said.

“Perry Police responded to the incident quickly,” reads a statement from the Perry Township School District.

‘A police report was sent to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors will then make a decision on criminal charges.’

Gooding says he still believes charges should be filed against the student.

“You have to be responsible for your actions and that’s how I feel,” he said.

The teacher said he immediately asked for the student to be arrested, but was told the school official on the scene would block him.

The incident occurred at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis earlier this month.

The case remains under investigation, a spokesperson for the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

It comes amid a wave of violent attacks against teachers across the country.

A ninth-grade student in Rockdale County, Georgia, has been charged with aggravated assault after attacking his high school teacher in January.

English language arts teacher Tiwana Turner was attacked in her classroom at Heritage High School on January 26.

Turner was hospitalized after the incident. Suffering knee injuries and a broken leg..

He will reportedly need extensive rehabilitation before he can return to work.

‘The students are out of control (…) there is no excuse for violence (…) there is no excuse for the children who come to our school every day and wreak havoc so that other students cannot learn,’ he told the half.
