A fashion and lifestyle influencer took to TikTok to warn others about a scam she encountered while on holiday in Milan.
Hannah Chody, 31, heiress to the Garrett Popcorn fortune, nearly died as she walked home after dinner with her husband, investor Chad Milburn, in the posh Italian city.
“I don’t know if anyone in Milan has experienced this,” he began.
‘This guy came up to my husband and kept saying, “scarpa, scarpa, scarpa,” which means shoes in Italian.
“And I was looking at my husband’s shoes and thinking, ‘What’s going on? ‘ And I was like, ‘No, let’s keep going. ‘”

Out of nowhere, a group of men began shouting the Italian word for “shoes” before one of them apparently tried to grab Chad’s wristwatch.
“Because Chad didn’t know what Scarpa meant,” he continued.
“This guy suddenly starts harassing and bullying us.”
At that point, Hannah says, the man reached for Chad’s hand, as if he wanted to reach his watch, which, thankfully, was covered by his suit jacket.
After a few moments, other people started approaching them and the boys “dispersed,” he continued.
After the incident, Hannah and Chad talked about it, and Chad realized something similar had happened to him before the pandemic.
Five years ago in Milan, in the same neighborhood, a man approached Chad and started making fun of his shoes, which were just “regular Gucci loafers,” Hannah said.

‘Because what do you do? If someone comments on your shoes, the first thing you do is look at them and not look at anything else.

Hannah, who married her husband Chad in Italy in July 2022, stressed that she almost always feels “safe” in Milan, but advised viewers to remain “super aware” of their surroundings.
She stressed that they were both “fine” but that it was “very weird and shady, and this guy definitely had some motive, they just cut him off,” she continued.
“However, I will just say that, you know, I feel very safe in Milan 99 percent of the time,” she stressed.
“But be very careful of your surroundings. If someone is trying to distract you, I think that’s the biggest warning sign.”
Hannah and her husband are no strangers to Italian culture, having made regular trips to the European country for years, and even tied the knot in a lavish ceremony held on Lake Como in July 2022.
In the two years since then, the influencer has become a bona fide star on TikTok, where she regularly shares beauty and fashion tips while documenting her jet-set lifestyle.
Last week, Hannah revealed she was heading off for a three-week European vacation as she documented her packing process – kicking off her trip in Milan before heading to the Dolomites.
