The International Boxing Federation announced the exclusion of the Algerian Iman Khalif from the final of the World Welterweight Championship for women in India for reasons related to eligibility criteria, which Algeria described as medical reasons.
Iman, 23, who won the silver medal at the 2022 World Championships, was supposed to play the final match against Chinese Yang Liu on Sunday, before she was suddenly excluded.
The Algerian Olympic Committee described Iman’s exclusion as medical reasons and said that it would sponsor the medical escort of heroine Iman Khalif, and support her in her preparations, in preparation for the African qualifying tournament for the 2024 Paris Olympics, which is scheduled in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, in August 2023.
In response to the reason for excluding Eman, the International Federation said in a statement to Reuters via e-mail: The International Federation adheres to its regulations and rules in addition to preserving the personal and medical privacy of athletes, and accordingly the International Federation cannot share details of violating the eligibility criteria.
The International Boxing Federation added that, based on the exclusion of Iman, Thai Jangaim Suwanaving will participate in the women’s 66 kg final.
The Algerian Olympic Committee expressed its support for the boxing champion and wrote on Facebook: Iman Khalif is a symbol of challenge. Iman Khalif is the strongest and the best, so let us all unite as one to support our star.
