He said: “I spoke to her at 11.30pm, three hours before she went to bed for the last time, and she was in good shape.” Amy said, “Dale, I just watched myself on YouTube and I can sing, right?” I replied, “Of course you can sing! You’re the best…you know.”

He added: ‘I’m glad you went to bed with that thought. I needed to appreciate that she could sing because she was very humble. Even at his level, a person can never see it in himself. You probably think, “Is flattery real or not?” But for me Amy is the first star of the millennium.”

Dale said that when he heard the devastating news that the talented star had died, he found it hard to even comprehend, but added that Amy had said she didn’t think she would live to be 28.

He said: ‘I went out with her two nights before. And she used to call my house regularly at that time to talk to my wife (now ex-wife) and my son. However, she told my ex that she didn’t think she would see 28.

He compared her to another iconic singer who died tragically early, also aged 27, and said: “There’s an element of Kurt Cobain in her.” They both had very short careers but had a huge impact.

‘There is a certain mystery when they don’t have the opportunity to age. When they are young, they throw this enormous spirit into the air and you don’t see so many defects.”

However, the biopic generated widespread controversy before its release, with many accusing the project of “exploiting the singer’s legacy” and “capitalizing on her trauma.”

Fans have taken to social media to protest the film, saying they will boycott it because they believe people should “let it rest.”

Amy’s grieving friends have also spoken out against the biopic, believing it is too soon for such a film to be made and angry that the film’s makers did not consult them about Amy’s life.

They claim executives working on Back To Black have not been in touch to ask about their memories of the late singer, raising fears the film is inaccurate.

While Amy’s friend and musician Neon Hitch called the film “ridiculous” and “in bad taste”, saying: “I feel very strange.” Could everyone please let Amy rest?’
