The Olympic silver medalist said Sky Sports: ‘I was on the phone with Eddie. I said, “Let’s fight.”

“I think now is the right time for that fight with Kell to take place. We have both been world champions. We are both British and also up north.

‘Imagine such a big fight taking place at the Old Trafford football stadium. It was going to be a huge fight.

‘Look, we’re ready, and I think it will be good for boxing, especially clearing the score and putting it in his place.’

Khan has been out since his 2019 win over Billy Dib, while Brook’s most recent bout was a hiatus from WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford in November.

With both fighters in their 30s, the pair will not be at the height of their strength, but Khan still believes the fight will be a spectacle and focuses all his efforts to make it happen.

Khan added to TalkSPORT: ‘What’s the fight everyone wants to see? Everyone wants to see the fight with Kell Brook. We’ve been talking about it for years and years.

Look, me and Kell are probably past our best, I’ll be honest. But at the same time, we are both about the same age.

“I think it would be a good fight between us to see who is number one in Britain.”
