A new study has revealed which airports in the United States are the worst for flight delays (and you’re out of luck if you fly to Florida, either).

In second place is Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), followed by Miami International Airport (MIA), Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
“Orlando International Airport has faced many challenges in recent months due to storms canceling flights, in addition to already busy conditions due to crowds from Walt Disney World and Universal Studios entering and exiting the airport,” the study said.
‘The data revealed that planes arrived at their destinations an average of four minutes late from Orlando, and that 14 of the 100 most delayed flights arrived or departed from Orlando.’
Surprisingly, the flight route with the most delays was from Orlando to Philadelphia, with an average delay of 35 minutes. However, the return trip typically arrives 22 minutes ahead of schedule.
“With more than 100 domestic and 50 international destinations, Orlando welcomed more than 57.7 million passengers in 2023 as the busiest airport in the state of Florida,” the study noted.

The recent airline service disruption has significantly impacted flight schedules, making it difficult to determine which airlines are currently experiencing the most delays and cancellations. However, the Essendex study, conducted prior to this disruption, identified JetBlue as the airline with the highest rate of flight delays.
“JetBlue Airways stands out as the only U.S. airline whose flights arrive late on average, despite data indicating an average delay of at least one minute,” the study said.
‘This coincides with JetBlue being crowned America’s worst airline for the second year in a row by the Wall Street Journal, due to extreme delays, frequent cancellations and two-hour waits on the tarmac.’
While other airlines suffered delays, Delta ironically stood out as the airline with the best on-time performance. However, after the disruption, it became the airline with the most flight cancellations and the second with the most flight delays this week.
“Delta Air Lines frequently exceeds its scheduled arrival times across the board, with flights arriving, on average, 25 minutes ahead of schedule,” the study noted.
While other airlines struggled with delays, Delta ironically stood out as the top on-time performer.
Despite being identified as the airport with the highest overall rate of flight delays in the study, Orlando International is not among the airports facing the most significant disruptions this week.
ATL ranks first for the most delayed flights this week. In second place is DFW, followed by Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), Denver International Airport (DIA) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD).
Among the airports with the most flight cancellations this week, Hartsfield-Jackson International remains in first place, followed by Minneapolis-Saint Paul International, Detroit Metro Wayne Co, LaGuardia and Charlotte Douglas International.
