Who said the suburbs were boring? Well, luckily, crime statistics.
The safest suburbs in the country have now been revealed in data analyzing levels of violent crime, property crime, vehicle-related deaths and drug poisoning deaths in 370 suburbs of the 100 largest cities.
Great Falls, Va., was crowned the nation’s safest suburb by SmartAsset analysis.
This affluent Washington D.C. suburb has the nation’s second-lowest violent crime rate, at just 6.81 per 100,000 population, as well as the eighth-lowest vehicle death rate with 4.35 traffic fatalities per 100,000 inhabitants.
It enjoys excellent access to the stunning natural beauty of Great Falls National Park as well as the rich culture of metropolitan Washington DC just 18 miles away.

The suburb contains several highly rated schools, including Langley High School and a public library.
Great Falls County, Fairfax County also has the highest median household income at $250,000, according to the US Census.
Carmel, a suburb of Indianapolis, has just been propelled to the post and comes in second position.
Neighboring suburbs Fishers and Noblesville rank fourth and fifth respectively.
These suburbs offer an attractive mix of high security and good affordability performance.
Housing costs in each of the four Indiana suburbs that made the list represent less than 17.5% of median household income.
In third place for security is the suburb of Bethesda in Maryland.
Bethesda has a low drug poisoning death rate of just 12.4 people per 100,000 population, but its property crimes are significantly higher than those on the shortlist.

The Washington DC suburb also has the 10th lowest percentage of heavy drinkers (14.57%) and one of the lowest vehicle fatality rates in our study, 4.98 deaths per 100,000 population. This ranks 27th out of 370 suburbs analyzed.
Boston’s suburbs have the lowest rates of fatal car crashes. Lexington, Somerville and Chelsea, Mass., ranked first, second and fourth in the fewest suburban deaths, with fewer than four car crash deaths per 100,000 population.
To compile their list of the safest suburbs, SmartAsset compared data from 370 locations within 15 to 45 minutes of the 100 largest US cities that have at least 5,000 residents.
