An American man was allegedly caught trying to smuggle $880,000 worth of cocaine hidden inside shampoo bottles to Australia.
The 33-year-old man was detained by Australian Border Force (ABF) officers on Boxing Day at Brisbane Airport after sniffer dogs allegedly detected traces of drugs in his luggage.
ABF officers found a 946ml bottle of shampoo and a bottle of conditioner of the same size inside the man’s bag which were later analysed.
Drug tests reportedly returned a positive result for 2.2kg of cocaine inside the bottles, which has an estimated street value of $880,000.
The 33-year-old man was questioned by police and charged with importing a marketable quantity of a border-controlled drug.
If convicted, the man could face a maximum of 25 years behind bars.
He was due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.
It comes after a western Sydney couple appeared in Downing Center Local Court last week accused of allegedly importing 10kg of heroin in their suitcases.

The 33-year-old man was arrested by police (pictured) and charged with importing a marketable quantity of a border-controlled drug.
Investigations into the man, 52, and woman, 53, began after they arrived at Sydney Airport on a flight from Ho Chi Minh City on January 9.
ABF officers selected the couple for a luggage check, which revealed anomalies in the lining of two suitcases.
A substance on the lining of the boxes gave a positive reading for the presence of heroin with an estimated street value of $5 million through 50,000 street sales.
The Canley Heights couple were taken into custody and are scheduled to appear in court on March 12.
