American Idol contestant is slammed for her ‘disgusting’ and ‘rude’ attitude after she stopped live performance to criticize her pianist – before making low blows about judge Luke Bryan

An American Idol contestant has been criticized for her “disgusting” attitude after stopping her performance, demanding to sing a cappella and criticizing judge Luke Bryan.

Madai ChaKell, from Springfield, Massachusetts, caused quite a stir on Sunday episode of the singing contest during Hollywood Night.

The 22-year-old stopped the show while attempting to perform Ariana Grande’s Tattooed Heart for the judging panel, which also includes Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.

Tensions were already high after Luke had previously given Madai a ‘no’ during her initial audition, but things soon boiled over.

Madai, who works as a content creator, was midway through a passionate performance of the 2013 release before abruptly stopping and turning to look at the pianist.

The hopeful singer said: ‘Wait, hey, can we start again? He wasn’t feeling that. I’m sorry everyone.’

He resumed his performance, but it was far from smooth.

Madai’s voice seemed to crack before she suddenly extended an arm and pointed at the musician providing the accompanying song without turning to look him in the eye.

She firmly stated, “Okay, we’re going to do this acapella because it doesn’t flow like we practice.”

The artist seemed to redeem herself after performing solo and was greeted with lukewarm applause from the panel of judges before sharing her comments.

Luke called her voice “shaky in places” and bluntly asked, “Is your voice okay?”

Madai admitted that she was “not where I would like her to be,” but seemed to change her attitude backstage.

She said, “My pianist just completely changed the script of what we had practiced.”

The singer then shared her annoyance at Luke’s comment, adding: “Then they also tried to play the ‘Is your voice okay?’ card. What do you think?”

‘I was shaky and everything (gargling noises) because look what they just did. Is your voice okay, Luke? I haven’t heard you sing. Obviously I can sing.”

After the incident, viewers took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their opinions about Madai.

One wrote: “Damn his attitude is disgusting.”

Another added: ‘We do NOT want Madai ChaKell to be our American Idol!! Throw her out! She is an arrogant idiot and doesn’t deserve another chance!! She is rude, unpleasant and condescending! She did NOT deserve all those reps!’

And a third said, “I love that American Idol gave Madai ChaKell a second chance to show what an asshole she is.”

In the end, the judges sent Madai home when the cuts were made.
