American gymnastics star Kayla DiCello revealed her Achilles tendon rupture injury diagnosis on social media shortly after competing at the Paris Olympic trials on Friday night.

While attempting to vault, DiCello landed on the mat after a double jump. Immediately after landing, he went to the ground.

After a few seconds, she shook her head, knowing that the discomfort was probably an injury that would keep her out of the Olympics.

DiCello was an alternate for the U.S. gymnastics team at the 2020 Olympics and was projected to be in contention for one of the final all-around spots this summer, with Simone Biles and Suni Lee likely taking two of the five tickets to Paris.

Now, DiCello, 20, will have to wait until the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles for a chance to represent her country at the world event.

DiCello said he tore his Achilles tendon while landing on the jump and is out of the Olympic trials.

‘Thank you so much for all your love and support. Unfortunately, I tore my Achilles tendon at the opening event of the Olympic Trials,’ DiCello said on social media.

“Even though this isn’t the result I imagined, there is a lot to be proud of. Years of tireless work and dedication in the gym with the dream of representing my country once again at the Olympics,” DiCello continued. “Striving to achieve new skills, new dreams.”

‘There’s also a lot to be thankful for. To my trainers, my gym buddies, my family, my friends, and my supporters – I’m so thankful for everything they’ve done for me,” DiCello added. “It truly takes a village to get to this point, and their support through the good and bad days has been something I’ve leaned on more than you can imagine.”

“As I begin my healing journey, I thank you for your prayers and well wishes. This is not the end of my story,” DiCello concluded.

The five members of the US women’s gymnastics team who will travel to Paris will be announced Sunday night.

The winner of the all-around contest, which will likely be Biles, will be awarded the automatic spot.

The other four spots are selected by a committee chosen by USA Gymnastics.
