She shared the results with TikTok, saying she sounded more like a ‘dying cat’ than an Australian – and some of her followers agreed.

Ms. Greig said she had lived in Australia for three years and even studied theater at university, but still couldn’t pick up the accent.

“You’d think I could do an Australian accent right now,” she said.

‘Sometimes I practice it in my spare time.

‘Lately I’ve been really hung up saying the word’ no ‘in Australian.’

After showing the results of that exercise, some of her followers recommended that she replace the ‘r’ sound at the end of the word with a ‘w’.

Others said she should stop trying and agreed that she sounded like a cat meowing.

“No, just no, no one can adopt an Australian accent unless you are Australia, no matter how many years you have lived here,” one person said.

“Sounds like a cat at the door waiting to be let out,” another joked.

“I’m not sure where you live in Australia, but I’ve lived her for 28 years and never heard an Australian sound, not even close to that,” commented another follower.
