An American expat has revealed why she believes KFC and McDonald’s in Australia “taste better” than the fast food chains in her home country.

Sophia, who moved from California to Sydney in February 2020, said she prefers KFC and McDonald’s in Australia because the quality of the food is fresher than the US version.

In her now-viral TikTok video, she shared her glowing review of KFC after trying the Zinger Burger Box with Wicked Wings, fries, coleslaw and a Twister.

“This is my first time trying KFC in Australia and I swear the fast food in Australia is so much better than in America. The quality of the food is just a lot better, as you can see in the photos and the videos,” she says.

The theory is that Australians are smaller than Americans because Australians charge for spices and the portions are smaller.

Sophia adds: ‘Everything just tastes fresher here.’

She said her American friends also agreed with her about the quality of food in Australia after she Instagrammed her experience at McDonald’s.

“All my friends in California were like, ‘Wait, why does it look so good?’” said the founder of swimwear label Siempre Golden.

Her video has since been viewed more than 100,000 times with a majority of people agreeing with Sophia’s statement.

“I swear, the first time I ate McDonald’s in Australia I thought wow this is so much better. Maccas in America is literally the worst,” wrote an American man.

One woman added: ‘All fast food in Australia is so much better than in the US because we use fresh produce.’

Many diners pointed out that food quality standards in Australia are “better” than in America, as most of the freshest ingredients come from Down Under.

‘Australian KFC gets its chicken from a real chicken producer in Australia,’ one wrote, while another added: ‘Our food safety standards are high and strict.’

Many complained that they felt sick after eating a fast food meal in America.

Meanwhile, someone suggested, ‘If you think KFC in Australia is good, wait until you try KFC in Japan, you’ll be amazed. Best KFC I’ve ever had.’

And she’s not the only one making a video about Australia’s fast food chains. Last week, American expat Kaymie Wuerfel revealed why she thinks Australian McDonald’s is better than the US.

The young woman, who moved from Florida to Sydney in early 2020, said the quality of the food Down Under was much better.

“I’ve never eaten it much in America because when you eat McDonald’s in America, you really feel like you’re going to die,” she said.

“And I know it probably isn’t much better here, but it’s so, so good.

“I eat those Chicken McPieces and drink my frozen Coke, the last thing on my mind is my health — which is probably a bad thing.”

Viewers agreed, with many suggesting that this could be due to Australia’s premium ingredients, such as grass-fed beef, or the oil chips and chicken nuggets fried in them.
