The MasterChef Australia star, 53, has just released her autobiography, Your Time Starts Now, which describes how she was sexually abused as a child and then attempted suicide as a teenager.

The TV chef, who rose to fame with her winning appearance on MasterChef in 2009, also struggled with suicidal thoughts just a few years ago.

Speaking to presenter Hamish Macdonald, 42, about that time, Goodwin tearfully recounted a heartbreaking moment when she was about to go swimming, not knowing if she would return.

Goodwin emotionally described how a pair of shoes her young son had bought her served as a reminder of the immense pain her loved ones would endure.
