  • American Hannah Shuman shared her opinion about Kmart online
  • She said it often has ‘lots of bare shelves’ and never has her size in stock
  • Outraged Australians have hit back and criticized her for criticizing the store
  • One person joked that her visa had to be revoked for lack of respect

An American living in Sydney has been criticized for her “scathing” review of Kmart, with passionate fans calling for her visa to be revoked.

In a video uploaded to TikTok, Hannah Shuman – a travel blogger who posts as Beach Baby Travels – said there are two main reasons why she prefers Target over Kmart.

The Florida native, who has lived in Australia since February 2019, complained that Kmart often has “a lot of bare shelves” and “literally never ever” stocks her size – an Australian six.

Her comments, which have been viewed more than 46,700 times since they were shared online on Thursday, have sparked outrage from Australians who have criticized her for criticizing the popular discount store.

“I like Kmart, not hate Kmart, but in general I feel like Kmart is almost always in stock. I feel like I’m seeing a lot of bare planks,” Hannah said in the clip.

She continued, “With clothes I can never find clothes in my size — that’s a six — and they literally never have anything in a size six.”

“In general, I know I’m going to get on my nerves when I say this, but I like Target better than Kmart.”

Viewers quickly jumped to the defense of Kmart, with one woman writing, “Kmart is superior to Target. This video is un-Australian!’

“Pretty damning lol. Kmart is much better,” said a second, while a third added, “An American who complains? I am shocked.’

A fourth joked that Ms Shuman’s visa should be revoked for disrespecting an Australian ‘institution’.

“No, then you have to go back to America, please and thank you,” said another.

Others defended the retailer by pointing out that Covid-related freight disruptions had impacted inventory levels in Kmart since the pandemic began in March 2020.

“It is because of Covid that Kmart is out of stock,” one person wrote.

Another viewer who works in the store agreed, saying: ‘Covid is still affecting us. Target doesn’t get any business, so more inventory.’

However, a small number of viewers agreed with her.

Later in the video, Ms. Shuman (pictured) emphasized that there are many things she likes about the discount store, including the homewares department and its famously affordable prices.

Another said: ‘Target is great in Australia! They have much better quality household items and clothing,’
