Ms. Poteet, whose full name is Brittany Nicole Poteet, moved to Australia in 2014 following a series of controversies after being crowned Miss Virginia USA.

Since arriving in Australia, the glamorous Southern beauty has embarked on a career as a female pro wrestler and continued to compete in beauty pageants, claiming the title of Miss Globe Australia in 2019.

She has also amassed an army of social media admirers with over 7,500 followers on Instagram.

Mrs. Poteet found herself in hot water after the 2011 Miss USA pageant when she posed in a photo on Facebook with the caption ‘Miss Alcoholic USA’.

She was later stripped of her Miss Virginia crown as a result of the incident.

It wasn’t the first time Mrs. Poteet had made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Her gay roommate Derek Powell accused her of making homophobic comments in 2011.

But she denied the charges and was quoted on the Think Progress news site: “The man sitting in my election office is gay and he is my best friend in the world, I talk to him every day.”

Ms. Poteet claims to have a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and a master’s degree in nuclear engineering.

Her grandparents are esteemed academics in the US state of Virginia.

Mrs. Poteet’s grandfather was the dean of faculties at one of America’s oldest universities – Hampden-Sydney College.

Her grandmother is a legacy alumni from Virginia Commonwealth University, where her uncle is also a former dean of medicine.

Ms. Poteet will face two charges of assault resulting in actual bodily harm when the case continues in September before Burwood Local Court.
