An American Airlines flight from Dallas flew for five hours before suddenly turning around.
The maneuver left the passengers in the air for nine hours, without reaching their destination.
One passenger, Jimin Lee, 41, pulled out his phone. To record the experienceand said the flight crew did not offer an explanation for the unexpected U-turn.
Lee posted the video on her Instagram account, which she runs with another mother.
She proceeded to tag the airline in the post, which was published on September 10 and has 55,000 views.

An American Airlines flight from Dallas flew for five hours before making a sudden turn.
One passenger, Jimin Lee, 41, pulled out her phone to record the experience, which she said was never explained to her.
‘A new fear is revealed: your flight to Korea may last five hours and return without any explanation,’ reads a caption that appears in the clip.
“Relax,” they told her and others.
He added in an interview with DailyMail.com that the flight was heading to Incheon International Airport in Seoul on September 7.
“American Airlines needs a lesson in effective communication,” she adds in the video, as images of the plane’s flight path are shown on the screen in front of her seat.
They show how the plane had crossed the entire continental United States and was over part of the Pacific Ocean before abruptly turning around.
“They said it was because the right side of the toilets weren’t working,” the subtitles state as filming continues.
“The pilot asked if anyone had a Phillips screwdriver to help fix the toilet,” he says later, adding a series of question marks to illustrate the absurdity of the situation.
The woman posted the video on her Instagram account, which she runs with another mother.
The maneuver left the passengers in the air for nine hours, without ever reaching their destination.
“The only vice I had at my disposal was hot Cheetos,” she writes, as a clip of her eating in the dark appears on the screen as the flight returns to the Lone Star State.
“I needed a ramyun and a stiff drink,” reads a corresponding caption, before the footage fast-forwards to the plane flying over Dallas, where the pilot is heard commenting that there are “clear skies.”
“Nine hours later we’re back in Dallas,” Lee concludes. “We don’t know what to say.”
She went on to tag both American and Cheetos, before posting a follow-up that showed her finally enjoying a hard-earned meal.
DailyMail.com did not immediately receive a response from the airline following a request for comment on Monday, but according to Jimin, the malfunction that warranted the abrupt change has not yet been fully explained.
It is unclear whether airline staff have followed up on their complaints, but DailyMail.com has sought clarification in a request on Monday.
The post has yet to provoke a public response from the US, despite the strangeness of the situation.
That said, the video has yet to receive a public response from the U.S., despite the absurdity of Lee’s story.
Meanwhile, the video continues to garner criticism.
