An American Airlines plane had to turn back just half an hour after takeoff and make an emergency landing at the starting point.

Flight 73 took off from Los Angeles at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday bound for Sydney, but made a U-turn over the Pacific Ocean at 11:02 p.m., according to flight data.

The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft landed safely in Los Angeles at 1:50 a.m. with no injuries reported.

American Airlines said the problem was a false alarm and that there was never any danger to the flight.

The crew noticed an indicator light warning of a problem with the cargo bay door and immediately returned to LAX.

However, when they examined the plane, maintenance workers found no problem with the door and concluded that the light was not working properly.

Flight 73 will take off on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. with the same plane.
