Amazon Studios Provides $50,000 Finishing Fund for Latino Independent Filmmakers (Exclusive)

As an extension of the partnership with the Latino Film Institute announced in October 2022, Amazon Studios is providing three independent filmmakers to complete their narrative or documentary feature films.

Directors and independent production companies can submit their picture-locked cuts to LALIFF works in progress, which will be judged based on the director’s unique voice, cultural significance, and commercial viability. The winners will be announced on June 4 at the closing night of LFI’s Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival. The exact distribution of the $50,000 inaugural fund will be based on the post-production needs of each of the three winning projects, as determined by a jury of post professionals.

“By supporting this program, Amazon supports our work as we continue to raise Latino voices in a landscape where it is difficult for filmmakers from our community to secure post-production funds,” said LFI founder and LALIFF co-founder Edward James Olmos in a statement. rack.

The partnership between Amazon and LFI already includes the streamer’s exclusive sponsorship of LFI’s Youth Cinema Project Alumni Program, which includes the YCP Fellowship, providing 19 high school students with the funds to create a short film for their film school and scholarship applications. The completed YCP Fellowship short will also be screened at LALIFF in June.

“At Amazon Studios, we strive to remove barriers to success in the creative process,” Amazon Studios and Prime Video Global Head of DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility) Latasha Gillespie said in a statement. “It’s part of the equity work we commit to. LALIFF Works in Progress is a compelling example of our inclusion policy and roadmap in action.”
