Amazon is reportedly looking for at least 100,000 square feet of office space in New York after having laid out its plans to build a headquarters in nearby Queens earlier this year.

Sources tell it New York Post that the online retail giant has shown interest in office space on the West Side of Manhattan.

Amazon, founded by billionaire Jeff Bezos, is said to have spoken with Brookfield, the owners of the One Manhattan West building and the adjacent, yet to be built Two Manhattan West.

They hope to be able to start at least 100,000 square feet.

The retail giant is already a tenant in another in the Manhattan buildings of Brookfield.

Brookfield denied that they would rent office space to Amazon, but the sources said it was unlikely to confirm anything due to the company's strict confidentiality agreements.

Amazon would also not comment on the rumored new office space.

One Manhattan West currently has some short-term available space in its skyscraper, while Two Manhattan West will not be ready for new tenants until 2022.

Amazon faced fierce opposition from local politicians, including Congressman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who were furious about the nearly $ 3 billion in tax breaks that Amazon had promised.

The astonishing reversal was a serious blow for Mayor Bill de Blasio and New York governor Andrew Cuomo, both of whom had lobbied intensely to land the campus within city limits.

Amazon & # 39; s search for a second headquarters, which he described as HQ2, was considered a massive year-long success with public relations and amassed global publicity and interest from cities in the United States.

The Seattle-based company was planning to bring 25,000 jobs to New York and spend $ 2.5 billion on building its offices.

It announced its plans in November to build the Queens complex as one of the two new headquarters.

When Amazon revealed that they would no longer build in Long Island City, the company said it had no plans to reopen the year-long investigation that drew 238 proposals from cities in North America.
