Prime Video’s next adult animated series goes to the devil.
The Amazon streamer has ordered two seasons Hazbin Hotela series based on a Animated pilot from 2019 of the same name by Vivienne Medrano. A24 is producing the series, while Fox’s Bento Box Entertainment is handling the animation. The first season premieres in January.
Hazbin Hotel revolves around Charlie, the princess of Hell, and her mission to rehabilitate demons as a means to peacefully reduce overpopulation in the realm. She opens a hotel in the hope that her guests will check out and move to heaven. Most of Hell is skeptical to say the least, but her devoted partner, Vaggie, and their first test subject, adult film star Angel Dust, stand by her. A powerful entity called the Radio Demon tries to help Charlie, giving her crazy dream a chance to become reality.
Medrano, also known as Vivziepop on her widely viewed YouTube channel, funded the Hazbin Hotel pilot via Patreon. It debuted on YouTube in October 2019. A24 made a series commitment in August 2020, but the show didn’t find a home until Prime Video came on board.
The series will be part of an adult animated program on Prime Video, which also features Invincible And The legend of Vox Machina and upcoming titles #1 Happy Family USAof A24 and Ramy Youssef, and Batman: Hooded Crusader (which used to be with Max).
Medrano executive producer Hazbin Hotel and directed all episodes. Joel Kuwahara and Dana Tafoya-Cameron also serve as executive producers; Scott Greenberg is an EP from season one.
