Amazon has planned a hardware event on Wednesday, and if last year's showcase was an indication, we might encounter several new devices from the company. CNBC has just published a report that says Amazon is working on wireless earbuds with health-tracking features and "a new, more comprehensive Echo-enabled device that comes with a woofer and better speakers than the original version."
The earbuds are expected to cost less than $ 100, giving them an affordable price compared to Apple's AirPods and other real wireless earbuds such as the Samsung Galaxy Buds, Jaybird Vistas and the upcoming Jabra Elite 75ts. Amazon seems to be planning a health and fitness push for the earbuds because CNBC says they can track the walking distance, calories burned, pace and other statistics.
Other earphones offer heart rate measurement and similar running tracking functions, so Amazon would not take a new path. Amazon earbuds have been rumored for some time. Alexa is already available on earphones from Sony, Jabra and others, although it is reasonable to expect that Amazon's own product has more advanced functionality.
As for the new flagship Echo, Amazon is said to focus on upgrading the sound performance of the smart speaker with new speaker components and a built-in woofer. The current line-up of Echo devices still cannot compete with Sonos and Apple speakers, so Amazon clearly wants to make up for audio quality.
The edge will handle the big Amazon event on Wednesday, so be sure to come back to see all the new Alexa-capable gadgets that the company is introducing.
