Amash gets standing ovations from hometowns but some want to know if he has become & # 39; Democrat? & # 39;
Representative of Michigan, Justin Amash, brought mixed reviews from his voters at an event in Grand Rapids after he was the first Republican to publicly call for President Donald Trump to be charged following the release of the Russian report.
For more than two hours on Tuesday evening, Amash took questions from members of the public during an event at the town hall that took place at the DeVos Center for Arts and Worship at the Grand Rapids Christian High School.
Many questions revolved around infrastructure, the immigration system, health care and legal marijuana, but the majority of those present focused on the Russian report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the analysis of the document by the congressman.
Although many of the viewers – around 800 in total – cheered the congressman with standing ovations about his courage to call for Trump's accusation, others accused him of changing political parties.
& # 39; How can you become a democrat if we have voted for you as a Republican? & # 39; 57-year-old Diane Luke, wearing a hat & # 39; Make America Great Again & # 39; wore, interrogated, adding that she was disappointed in Amash, according to The New York Times.
Michigan Republican Justin Amash received mixed reviews from voters at a town hall-style event on Tuesday night about his claim that President Donald Trump engaged in & # 39; accusing behavior & # 39;
Although he received several standing ovations during the event that took place at the DeVos Center for Arts and Worship at the Grand Rapids Christian High School, he was also questioned about his Republican character
There were several red hat-wearing Trump supporters in the crowd who opposed Amash & # 39; s Twitter rant, which he was fully engaged in, which made him the first Republican lawmaker to file the president's indictment after the Mueller report
Amash told the crowd: & # 39; I have not changed. I am who I said I was. & # 39; after a 57 year old female participant has a & # 39; Make American Great Again & # 39; wearing a hat he asked: & # 39; How can you become a Democrat if we have voted for you as a republican? & # 39;
& # 39; I have not changed, & # 39; said Amash. & # 39; I am who I said I was. & # 39;
Amash said he came to the conclusion that Trump & # 39; had been guilty of punishing behavior & # 39; after carefully reading the edited version of Mueller's report, which was handed over to Congress and made public in April.
& # 39; Unlike Barr's portrait, Mueller's report reveals that President Trump was engaged in specific actions and behavior that meets the threshold for deposition, & # 39; tweeted the congressman in a discussion on May 18.
Before meeting with voters in Michigan's third district, Amash made a Twitter message in which Attorney General Bill Barr accused a wrong aspect of the report in an attempt to protect the president.
In anticipation of the release of the edited report, Barr provided a four-page summary almost immediately after Mueller handed the report to him, essentially claiming that the findings of the probe completely exempt Trump.
& # 39; Attorney General Barr intentionally misrepresented aspects of the Mueller report and the decisions in the investigation, & # 39; Amash wrote in his May 18 thread, & # 39 ;, which contributed to the pernicious story of the investigation by the president. & # 39;
Amash said in a Twitter thread posted on May 18 that he had intentionally misrepresented Attorney General Bill Barr's opinion on Special Counsel's Robert Mueller's advice to protect the president
Trump, as well as several other Republicans, have beaten the Republican representative for his allegations. The president said in a response to Twitter on May 19 that Amash only asked for his deposition so that he could gain brand awareness by raising controversy
All four children of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos graduated from the school where the event was held. The billionaire family has been subsidizing the Republican party in the state for decades, but said through a spokesperson that it would not financially support Amash
Since Amash's allegations, republicans have expressed opposition to Amash and his opinion, but despite the anger of his colleagues, Amash has tripled his arguments on Twitter.
Trump also responded to the congressman and claimed that Amash is only against him because he wants to get his & # 39; there name through controversy & # 39 ;.
& # 39; Never a fan of @justinamash, a total lightweight that works against and some of our great Republican ideas and policies just to get his name there through controversy, & # 39; Trump wrote on Twitter the day after Amash & # 39; s tirade.
& # 39; If he read the biased Mueller report, & # 39; composed by 18 Angry Dems who hated Trump, he would see that it was strong on NO COLLUSION and, ultimately, NO BARRIAGE, & # 39; Trump continued. Anyway, how do you hop when there is no crime and in fact the crimes have been committed by the other party? Justin is a loser who plays sadly in the hands of our opponents! & # 39;
The Billionaire DeVos family, including Trump & # 39; s education secretary Betsy DeVos, who has been subsidizing the Republican Party in Michigan for decades, said it would not financially support the republican five-in-five.
All four DeVos children attended the Christian school where Amash held his event in the town hall.
About 800 people were in the auditorium to hear Amash talk and ask him questions ranging from his analysis of the Mueller report to infrastructure, the immigration system, health care and marijuana legalization
Michigan representative Jim Lower said he would be launching a primary challenge against Amash in 2020.
& # 39; He has been isolated and marginalized in D.C. & # 39 ;, Lower said. & # 39; I don't think the district will buy in fairly. & # 39;
A veteran of the national guard, Tom Norton, also served to challenge Amash at the next primary election. Amash was not confronted with a Republican challenger in 2018 and won by a margin of 11 percentage points, compared to his 22-point margin in 2016.
Amash identifies himself as a libertarian and strict constitutionalist, and some speculate that he might consider working for the presidency as an independent libertarian candidate.
Democrats began demanding that the indictment of the president be filed in troves after Barr made public an edited version of the report.
Although the report found no evidence that Trump, or anyone related to his campaign or administration, had conspired with the Kremlin to influence the 2016 elections, it was unable to say whether the president had impeded the law.
Many Democrats say the 10 & # 39; episodes & # 39; that Mueller describes in the report of possible obstruction are sufficient reasons to start the impeachment procedure.
Landlord Nancy Pelosi has urged her colleagues not to jump on the handling car and instead take congress probes to see if there is more solid basis to remove the president from office.
