Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley in legal dispute with Greek shipping magnate over ‘£37m loan’
Claim: Amanda Staveley owns 10% of football club with her husband
Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley has denied claims she owes tens of millions of pounds to a Greek shipping magnate as the bankruptcy row continues. Victor Restis has demanded £37m, saying Staveley was unable to repay a loan from 15 years ago.
Staveley, who owns 10 per cent of the football club with her husband, said the sum relates to a £10m equity investment made by Restis in 2008, and what he owes is far less than the tycoon claims. .
Around £7m was repaid in 2016, leaving £3m, he says.
Staveley’s lawyers asked the High Court last month to “set aside” a lawsuit filed by Restis.
Restis said: “Ms Staveley’s position that the debt is unfounded is mistaken.”
