Following the news of Jamie’s diagnosis, Davina was a guest on Heart Breakfast, where she joked that while standing in for Amanda in June, she feared she had caused her co-star a throat problem by “strangling him with a bear hug”.

After their hug, Jamie began to notice problems with her throat and eventually went to see a doctor when things got worse and worse.

While appearing as a guest on Heart Breakfast, Amanda thanked Davina for urging Jamie to go to the doctor.

Amanda said: ‘We want to thank you because when, the day you left… now Davina is known for her bear hugs.’

Davina told Amanda that when she hosted the Heart Breakfast with Jamie in June, she “strangled” him in a bear hug, and soon after she began noticing his throat problems.

“I’m worried about this,” Davina chimed in.

Amanda continued: “You gave Jamie a huge hug that almost suffocated him. So when I came back, Jamie started to lose his voice and it just got worse and worse.”

Davina, visibly worried, asked: “Did I do this?”

But Amanda assured her that she was not responsible for Jamie’s health problems, saying: ‘He went to the doctor and the doctor said, “This isn’t right, we’re going to look at your throat” and because of you, he went to the doctor in the first place.

‘Then they found a lesion in his throat, which they have since removed and everything is fine.’
