& # 39; I walk out of this hopeful that we can find a way to save lives, & # 39; Guttenberg told Cruz in a live stream of the conversation.
Milano and Cruz have previously argued about the issue of the 2nd amendment, with actress Cruz even batting as being & # 39; owned by the gun lobby & # 39 ;.
Cruz is a leading voice for extended rights of the second amendment and a few days after the massacre in West Texas on August 31, Milano called his advocacy & # 39; bulls *** & # 39 ;.
However, the responses did not prevent him from accepting her proposal to meet for a discussion on the controversial issue.

& # 39; If you send tweets on social media, I just want you to stop paying attention to creating a gap … and just make sure that this (the government) has to function, & # 39; she said.
& # 39; We have to do something. We cannot do anything anymore because too many people are dying. & # 39;
Guttenberg also focused on Cruz and showed him pictures of a daughter the day before her death on February 14 and said: & this is the last photo I will see of her & # 39 ;.
He then attacked the senator for making the gun debate partial and saying: & # 39; your decision to do this really makes me look ridiculous & # 39 ;.

Cruz spent much of the conversation writing a 2013 bill that he wrote with Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley. He said it would have prevented the massive shooting in 2017 in a church in Sutherland Springs, near San Antonio, if it wasn't blocked in 2013.
The bill would provide means to prosecute those who violate gun laws and those who do not pass background checks, while government entities should be required to provide accurate information to the national background check database.
& # 39; We must strengthen background checks, & # 39; Cruz said, indicating that his bill was the way to do that.
Milano asked Cruz to encourage Senate Republicans to discuss measures such as universal background controls for firearm purchases.
After the meeting ended, Milano tweeted: & I just left. He was kind. I'm not sure if it will change anything. But grateful for the opportunity to bridge the gap with a bourgeois, meaningful discussion. Link to entire meeting below. # NoRA & # 39 ;. =
Speaking later with Chris Cuomo on Fox News, she added: & # 39; I am cautiously optimistic that he knows the issue and I hope he is willing to do something about it. & # 39;
& # 39; He takes a lot of money from the NRA, he has been on the wrong side of this issue, but I do understand how fossilized we are to parties. & # 39;
Ted Cruz tweeted: & # 39; Always grateful for the opportunity to have a positive, social discussion on substantive issues. Today's meeting with @Alyssa_Milano and @fred_guttenberg was productive and respectful and I appreciate their willingness to come here with an open mind. & # 39;
