Alyssa Milano and Holy Marie Combs have struggled with current showrunner Krista Vernoff from Grey’s Anatomy to explain why she left their hit series Charmed as a writer and producer.

The former co-stars disagreed with Vernoff’s claim during a new interview that she was “ creating something that’s bad for the world now ” after working on the show for three seasons.

Vernhoff mentioned a particular Charmed episode, in which Milano was dressed in a revealing mermaid outfit, which played a part in her decision to move forward with the supernatural fantasy drama.

“ I signed up because Charmed was a girls power show, ” Vernoff, 49, told me in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter

About halfway through there was an episode where Alyssa Milano comes out in mermaid pies and there was a massive spike in male viewership, and every episode after that came the question from the network, ‘How do we get the girls naked this week? ? ”’she explained.

She went on to talk about how she was offered double her salary to do a fourth season, but turned it down.

‘And they threw money at me, and the numbers just keep going up, and there’s all this pressure, and all I can think of is,’ I’m creating something that’s bad for the world right now, and I’ve had enough the world in my life. ”

The episode in question was one of the two-part premiere of season five, A Witch’s Tail, which aired in September 2020.

For the first three seasons, Charmed was the second highest rated series on The WB, behind 7th Heaven. In its fifth season, the series became the highest-rated Sunday night show in The WB history.

Milano, who played Phoebe Halliwell during the show’s eight seasons, got emotional when she responded to Vernoff’s revelation.

Well, this absolutely broke my heart. I hope we didn’t make something that was ‘bad for the world’ for eight years, ” Milano shared on Twitter.

‘I think we’ve given permission for a generation of women to be themselves and be strong and own their sexuality. I am so proud of what this show meant to so many. ‘

Combs, who played Piper Halliwell, didn’t mince words when she disagreed that Charmed was “ bad for the world ” on Twitter.

‘I can confirm that 1000% Charmed was not bad for the world. The reasons and people are too long to list. Maybe it was bad for Krista’s world at the time. End of story. ‘

She added: ‘And the fact that we can still stand up for ourselves and the show and the people who loved it proves this. I never cared which producer or network exec wanted us naked more for their $. And still not. We knew how to fight it and found our own strength. And still do it, ‘along with the hashtag #Facts.
