A teenager was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after an outing to an ice skating rink ended in horror.

The boy is believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries at the Alpine Ice Sports Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand, on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services were called to the rink after receiving reports that a student on a school trip had suffered a serious fall while skating on the ice.
