AL AIN, United Arab Emirates (AP) – Qatar defeated North Korea 6-0 on Sunday and reached the knockout stage of the Asian Cup after the biggest win in this tournament so far.

Saudi Arabia, which won 2-0 vs. Lebanon for its second consecutive victory on Saturday, will join Qatar in round 16 of Group E. Amid diplomatic tensions between the two countries, Qatar and Saudi Arabia meet Thursday in a game that the decision will take group winner.

Four-time Japanese champion came closer to the advance after a 1-0 victory over Oman for his second victory in Group F. Japan is not able to defeat Uzbekistan in Dubai later on Sunday.

The best two teams in each group and the four best third placed teams will advance to the round of 16.

Qatar, the host of the World Cup in 2022, has been the victim of a diplomatic and logistical boycott by regional rivals, including Saudi Arabia, for more than 18 months.

After a goal in the opening of the 2-0 victory over Lebanon, Qatar striker Almoez Ali added four more to become the leading goal scorer. He hit twice within two minutes early in the first half to give Qatar a comfortable lead with another two in the second half.

In Abu Dhabi, Genki Haraguchi earned the penalty and then, in the 28th minute, he converted to Japan.
