Alexandre Lacazette was awarded the Premier League goal of the month award for December after the Arsenal striker scored a team goal against Southampton.

The Frenchman punched a cross from Bukayo Saka into the top corner to give the Gunners a 1-0 lead against the Saints on December 11, with the move deployed by goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale before a one-touch play put the ball in the field received.

Lacazette was presented with the award at Arsenal’s training base in Colney, but was disappointed that he could not have photos of him holding the award with his team-mates as he dedicated the award to Mikel Arteta’s roster for the team move.

Speaking to the Arsenal media team after receiving his award, Lacazette said: “It is a pleasure and an honour. Above all, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone.

“I really wanted to take that picture (with the prize) with the whole team because this is the kind of thing we’ve been working on every week for two years now.

“So it’s a shame I couldn’t get along with all my teammates due to Covid reasons, but I want to thank them all and everyone for this.

“It was a perfect move from the back with Aaron building up, then we continue on the right side with everyone at the touch of a button. It was a good cross from Bukayo which allowed me to score perfectly.

“It’s really good that we’ve been working on this every week. This is the kind of goal any team would like to score. Everyone was involved and that is very satisfying.

“It’s in my top five because it’s a team goal and I believe football is about the team and goals like this are really great for me.”

The strike was Lacazette’s second Premier League goal of the season, with the 30-year-old netting just three Premier League goals since the start of the 2021-22 season.

Lacazette’s other Premier League goals this season have been against Crystal Palace and Norwich City, and the Frenchman has also scored twice in the Carabao Cup this season, placing them in joint fourth place in the Gunners’ standings.

The 30-year-old is currently captain of the Gunners, while Mikel Arteta’s squad is still reeling from the decision to strip skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of the armband last month.
