The Murdaugh Murders was first announced to begin development in November 2022.
The streaming series will cover Murdaugh’s personal family drama and extensive reporting by journalist Mandy Matney, who created the Murdaugh Murders Podcast.
Co-creators Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr, along with executive producer Nick Antosca, will create the greenlit drama series.
Nick previously worked with Patricia on the miniseries, The Act, in 2019, which showcased the true crime story behind DeeDee Blanchard, played by the actress, and Gypsy Rose.
The TV show showed the true story behind abusive mother DeeDee, who pretended Gypsy had leukemia and muscular dystrophy for years, and Gypsy, who convinced her boyfriend to murder her mother.
Her powerful acting role led Patricia to win an Emmy and a Golden Globe in the category of best supporting actress in a limited series or movie.
The new Hulu series will also be produced by the same companies that created The Act – Eat the Cat and Universal Studio Group’s UCP.
