A royal flush! Alex Jones reveals she LOCKED King Charles in a ‘smelly toilet’, sparking panic that the Monarch was missing… but insists he ‘saw the funny side’ of her blunder
The One Show star Alex Jones has revealed her hilarious – and extremely stinky – blunder when she first met King Charles.
The TV presenter, 46, spoke on Thursday’s This Morning about when she met the monarch, then Prince Charles, during her early career when she worked as a runner and research for a TV production company in her native Wales.
The King led an opening ceremony for a new grant the company received to give young people in disadvantaged areas of Wales opportunities to work in the media.
In an effort to be vigilant in her work, Alex noticed that the men’s room had a strong smell, so she opted to lock the door and prevent the Monarch from facing the stench – but when he then went missing she realized what she had done.
Recounting the hilarious anecdote, she said, “Long, long time ago, and I’ve seen him since then and it’s fine, when I was a runner, he came to open this new center to encourage people to get to work. ..

“He came to open the center and there was a big fanfare and it was my job to be there to get them all used and show them. There was a men’s room downstairs and it smelled a bit because there was a river…
“I locked the door and thought, ‘We don’t want them to go in there,’ but I didn’t realize that Charles and his assistant had gone in, so they were locked in!”
Speaking about the incident in January, she told Elizabeth Day about the initial confusion when he was discovered to be gone.
She continued, “There was this huge sense of panic and they were like we don’t know where he is. Prince Charles has actually disappeared…
And I was like ‘there must be an assistant or something that knows where he is’ and they were like ‘no we can’t find him either’ and I was like ‘oh weird’.

It was then that Alex realized where he was and then released him – after which she insisted that he was “sweet” and saw the funny side of it.
Her discussion about King Charles comes after Alex opened up about her “backlash” in her career after viewers complained they couldn’t understand her because of her Welsh accent.
The presenter has headlined The One Show since 2010, but recalled the difficulties she faced at the start of her stint. Speaking to The Times, she questioned the nature of the complaints, saying: ‘What if it’s not racist?’

She told the publication, “There was a bit of a backlash.
“My boss at the time, and he was a nice guy, rolled his eyes and said, ‘Oh Jones, can’t you just say fruit instead of frewt [because] I receive emails with complaints. Can’t you just do it like this?”
“I was really surprised because we talk so much about people being racist. What is that if it’s not racist? It’s just a different sound than your voice, the way you form words is slightly different…
“Regional accents were relatively new at the time, so other than Huw Edwards, this was the first time they had heard a Welsh accent.”
