Despite being pregnant before, Alex said she was completely unaware of the signs she was expecting and instead thought it was thanks to trying a meat- and dairy-free diet.

The presenter continued: “ This is ridiculous in a third pregnancy, but I didn’t realize the clues were there because frankly, I blamed everything on veganism. I was so tired and hungry all the time and I thought that was it.

‘But I told my husband I think we should take a test. And he said, “What? What?” – anyway, we did a test. ‘

She said of her unexpected pregnancy, “It was funny because we didn’t necessarily have a third planned because we thought … We were so grateful to have the two boys and we just thought,” There you are. “

So it was a huge surprise. And when we also realized it was a girl, we were just ecstatic. Because I don’t know, it wasn’t something we ever expected, but actually three feels great and fine.

And it will be hellish at times, I’m sure because we’ve got three under four and a half, so it’s going to be pretty demanding. We are just very lucky, very lucky that it happened. ‘

Alex also shared how her two sons responded to the news that they will soon have a sister, and Teddy gives her a particularly hilarious response.

The TV star said, “I don’t think little Kit, the youngest, really gets it. I keep pointing at my stomach and say “baby, there’s a baby in here” and he says “baby” but I don’t think he understands what’s going on.

And then Teddy starts talking a little more about the sister. The first reaction was, “Mommy we already have a baby” – he meant Kit – “so we can send it back”. ‘

Grinning, Alex admitted, “So he didn’t like it at first! But I think it’s because he and Kit got so super close during the lockdown and so super close, because they didn’t see their friends, they didn’t go to daycare, they just had each other.

Teddy is quite sensitive and I think he was concerned about the dynamic changes. He said “but what if Kit just wants to play with the new baby and stop playing with me?” It’s funny, isn’t it? How children interpret things.

‘But now I think he has accepted mom’s belly growing and this is the reality. He’s trying to be practical, so he asks things like, “How are we going to fit in the car?” that’s a good question, because we’re not sure yet. ‘

Alex also said her boys want to name their sister ‘Skye’ after the girl in Paw Patrol.

But the Welsh beauty insisted not to add any of their children’s suggestions to the list of possible baby names because, “If we did, Kit would have been named Percy after the train.”

And while Alex eagerly awaits her daughter’s arrival, she confirmed that their little girl will be the last child they have.

Discussing the idea of having kids in her 50s – after Naomi Campbell, 51, welcomed her first child last week – Alex insisted, ‘It wouldn’t be for me, because we’re officially done now!

“I think every human being – male or female – should do what’s right for them, in terms of having a child.

And things don’t always work out for them the way you thought it would when you were 25. I thought that by the time I was 28 I would get married and have two children and it wasn’t like that for us.

So I think, for me that [having a child in your fifties] would be a little late in the day. But everyone has the right to do what they feel like. ‘

Alex elaborated on her thoughts about women having children later in life, explaining, “The world has changed.

‘We can now have babies in our 40s. Not everyone, of course, some people struggle terribly, but more and more of us get pregnant naturally or IVF works in women’s 1940s.

‘But we are in a different time than when we were all born. Things have moved on. We know how to take care of ourselves. We are a little more careful with our health.

“ There is still a bit of a stigma around it, but people these days because it’s busy with careers and finding ‘The One’ and moving somewhere for a job.

“Sometimes, like me, you don’t meet your husband until you’re in your early thirties, and then of course it takes time to go through the process.

“I’ve gotten so many messages from people saying they are in their mid-40s and 23 weeks pregnant. And I love that it has become more normalized. ‘

Elsewhere, Alex admitted that her children are the reason she decided to join the Cadbury Sofa Sessions to discover the simple sustainable actions people can take every day to reduce their impact on the planet.

She explained, ‘I am leading the Cadbury Sofa session to help us discover the simple and sustainable actions we can all take every day to have a positive impact on the planet.

‘But I think people are really confused because so many messages are being sent. We want to help but don’t know exactly what to do, that will make a huge difference.

‘The idea came from having young children, and I think unless we all play our part, they won’t have a very nice planet to live on: for their children and their grandchildren.

‘I think I’ve really started thinking about it since I became a mother. But I am also married to a bit of a green crusader. It’s great because Charlie focuses on the boys and teaches them why we do certain things for the planet.

‘It’s great to start them very young. He really helped me realize the importance of incorporating it into our daily life as best we can.

Cadbury uses 100% sustainably sourced cocoa and helps the communities that make these products. I’ve had my face full of Cadbury’s ever since, and all the time I didn’t realize that buying that chocolate has helped women and children and made sure farmers are treated fairly. ‘

The Cadbury Sofa Sessions are hosted by Alex Jones alongside three panelists including Cathy Pieters, Senior Director for Cocoa Life at Mondelez, Laurie Lee, Chief Executive Officer of Care International UK and Margreet Groot, Comms lead for the UNDP Green Commodities Program.
