Alex de Minaur and Alexei Popyrin have been eliminated from the Olympic Games after losing their first-round match in straight sets.

De Minaur was forced to withdraw from the men’s singles competition due to the hip injury that led to his withdrawal from Wimbledon earlier this month, but was available for the doubles tournament alongside childhood friend Popyrin.

However, the Australian pair were brutally eliminated by their US team rivals Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram, who won the match 6-2, 6-4 at Roland Garros.

This means that both De Minaur and his girlfriend, tennis star Katie Boulter, will no longer be taking part in Paris this summer, as the Briton also suffered a straight-sets defeat in the first round of the women’s singles tournament to Slovakia’s Anna Karolína Schmiedlová.

More to follow.
