Australia’s best coffee can be found at Aldi for less than 30 cents a cup, following the supermarket’s prestigious win in the world’s largest coffee roasting competition.
Lazzio beans, an exclusive range from Aldi, roasted by Melbourne supplier Black Bag Roasters, have been crowned in the Large Chain Overall Champion category at the 2024 Golden Bean Australasia Awards.
The coveted award perhaps proves that shoppers don’t need to spend a fortune to enjoy a great cup of coffee, with the range offering prices all Australians can afford.
The award-winning range, which includes 10 coffee blends, also scooped a further 14 Golden Bean medals across various coffee categories.
“Australia has a reputation for having some of the best coffee in the world and we are proud to offer exquisite coffee to our customers,” said Daniel Quinlan, purchasing director at Aldi Australia.

Aldi partnered with Victorian roasters in 2014.

The duo have won the Overall Large Chain Champion at the Golden Bean Australasia Awards six times in the last 10 years and have won the Overall Large Chain Champion two years in a row at the World Series Golden Bean Awards.
Lance Brown, sales director at Black Bag Roasters, said the company was “once again excited” to be recognized for its range of coffee beans.
“Our decade-long partnership with Aldi has taken us to new heights and allowed us to expand our in-store offering, as well as invest further in our operations to ensure we bring great-tasting coffee to more Australians,” he said. .
Over the past 10 years, the supermarket chain has seen a significant increase in its weekly coffee production.
Lazzio’s weekly coffee supply has multiplied significantly from 4 tonnes of coffee beans in 2014 to an impressive 65 tonnes sold per week today.
Due to high demand, Black Bag Roasters expanded its facilities by opening another roastery located in Truganina, Melbourne.
The $11 million purpose-built warehouse features an impressive 600kg coffee roaster and innovative packaging technology.
The 600kg coffee roaster is among the largest coffee roaster investments in Australian coffee history.
