Nothing heralds Christmas more than the arrival of festive food in supermarkets, but Aldi is going even further to ensure that as many people as possible try its best treats in the run-up to the Christmas season.
The discount supermarket chain is once again opening its Bottomless Pigs in Blankets restaurant in London, offering guests the chance to try up to seven varieties of its festive bestseller and enjoy a welcome drink for just £5, with profits going will go to the Neighborly network of charities.
Championing pigs in blankets (small sausages wrapped in bacon, for the uninitiated), the restaurant will reopen its doors on Bethnal Green Road, east London, from November 29-30.
The news comes as a control body: Which one? named Aldi the ‘Best Place to Buy Pigs in Blankets’ this Christmas, giving the supermarket a score of 79 out of 100.
Competitors Tesco and Sainsbury’s scored 67 out of 100 and 70 out of 100 respectively.
Restaurant Aldi served 10,000 pigs in blankets to hundreds of visitors last year and, with research suggesting Londoners will enjoy 13.7 pigs in blankets each this Christmas, its Shoreditch site is likely to be oversubscribed.
Julie Ashfield, managing director of purchasing at Aldi UK, says: “Customers went crazy for our Pigs in Blankets restaurant last year, so we knew we had to bring it back.
“The humble pig in a blanket is the king of Christmas dinner – the irresistible combination of tasty sausage and crispy bacon creates a blend of flavors and textures that’s hard to resist.”

But that doesn’t mean Aldi is doing everything the same this time.

The pigs in blankets on offer include specially selected pigs in blankets, made with pieces of pork sausage and wrapped in smoked bacon.
There are also specially selected truffle chipolata pigs in blankets offering truffle-flavored chipolatas wrapped in crispy, streaky bacon.
In addition to this, Aldi is offering specially selected Honey Ginger Candy Cane Pigs in blankets made with honey and ginger flavored sausages, wrapped in striped bacon and shaped like a festive candy cane.
Finally, customers can get their hands on the specially selected blanket cheese that combines cheddar, mozzarella and cream cheese, wrapped in crispy oak-smoked bacon. For those who prefer a plant-based option, Aldi offers a ‘Plant Menu Ultimate Footlong Vegan Pig in Blanket’.
Made with Ultimate No Pork Sausage and wrapped in smoked vegan bacon, the super-sized treat will be served alongside an endless supply of Aldi’s Plant Menu Ultimate Vegan Pigs in Blankets.

Reservations for Aldi’s Pigs in Blankets restaurant are now open via Eventbrite, with spaces available for walk-ins.
The restaurant will be open from Friday, November 29 to Saturday, November 30 from 12:30 to 20:30.
