Aldi has been named ‘Supermarket of the Year’ in Australia, beating homegrown rivals such as Coles and Woolworths.
The German retailer took first place in Melbourne market research firm Roy Morgan’s 2020 Customer Satisfaction Awards, which are based on an annual survey of 50,000 independent Australian consumers.
Shoppers were asked to rate supermarkets based on their overall satisfaction with service, offers and value for money throughout the year.
And it’s not just in-store that Aldi customers enjoy their experience.

How Roy Morgan scores his Customer Satisfaction Awards
Melbourne market research firm Roy Morgan asks customers to rate a product or service on a scale of: ‘very satisfied’, ‘fairly satisfied’, ‘neither satisfied nor dissatisfied’, ‘fairly dissatisfied’, ‘very dissatisfied’ ‘ or ‘completely satisfied’ , ‘somewhat satisfied’, ‘neither satisfied nor dissatisfied’, ‘not very satisfied’ and ‘not at all satisfied’.
Analysts then combine the answers “fairly satisfied” and “very satisfied” and calculate this as a percentage of the total number of customers surveyed. For each category, only customers of that product or service are included.

The discount retailer’s phone network, Aldi Mobile, also won the Mobile Phone Service Provider of the Year title, boosting global brand names such as Vodafone and Optus.
Simon Padovani-Ginies, group director of Aldi Australia, said the supermarket is honored to be so highly regarded by its customers.
“We continuously strive to provide the highest quality products at the lowest possible prices, and it is clear that this commitment resonates with customers year after year,” said Mr. Padovani-Ginies.
He said the Aldi Australia team takes pride in meeting shoppers’ expectations by delivering exceptional value across all products.
Aldi has taken a major win in what is the world’s largest ongoing single source survey.
The Roy Morgan annual award spans 40 categories across multiple industries and is awarded to organizations with the highest number of monthly customer satisfaction ratings in the past 12 months.
