Aldi Australia has sparked a wave of nostalgia and excitement among shoppers with its latest Christmas food range.

The German retailer launched a copy of the much-loved Viennetta ice cream cake on Thursday, as part of its biggest “Christmas freezer range” to date.

Dubbed the ‘Entertainer,’ the one-quart ice cream cake costs just $6.99 and features waves of vanilla-flavored ice cream layered with chocolate chips, just like the original ’90s treat.

The retail giant has also expanded on the original dessert, which many remember as the “most elegant dessert of the era,” by offering a second flavor.

The second version features hazelnut and chocolate flavored ice cream with layers of chocolate. It is then sprinkled with more chocolate and crushed hazelnuts.

Aldi’s Christmas range focuses on a simple but luxurious experience on Christmas Day.

This year it has doubled in size, following feedback from last year’s shoppers who admitted they preferred to serve pre-prepared frozen meals to their families at Christmas so they could enjoy their day.

In fact, the retailer found that up to 50 per cent of Australians were looking for quick and easy holiday options, and 45 per cent of them said they would prefer to spend time with their families rather than be stuck in the kitchen.

ALDI shopping expert Kylie Warnke said research shows Australians spend an average of four hours in the kitchen during the holidays.

“We’re hoping to make the day a little lighter with the build-up with our largest range of frozen products yet, so there’s something for everyone,” he told FEMAIL.

‘Adding these frozen treats to your Christmas menu will eliminate stress and allow you to get back to having fun with your family and friends!’

The $34.99 treat was a best-seller in 2023, with shoppers rushing to snap up the premium purchase that comes with a garlic butter glaze and lasts up to 12 months in the freezer.

Lobster tails cost more than $60 each at seafood stores during the holiday season.

Aldi’s entire Christmas seafood collection returns to stores from Wednesday 23 October.
